Wine Tasting Event

Waxwing Wines is one of my favorite, locally produced wines, and thanks to my dad, I have quite a sophisticated palette. Scott Sisemore is a local, SAH dad and the proprietor/winemaker that I met through SCBMC. He shares a generous and humble spirit and is very welcoming to those who want to talk wine in a non-threatening environment. Check out his wines at this local tasting:

When: Saturday, Feb 20th
Time: 1-5 pm
Where: Domenico Wines, San Carlos
Pouring: 2008 Russian River Valley Pinot Nonir and 2008 Sonoma Coast Syrah.
Sampling: 2009 waxwing wines from the barrel

Children are welcome but must be closely supervised due to the industrial nature of the location.

I love allrecipes.com! It was suggested to me by my cousin who seems to have the SAH (Stay-At-Home) Mom thing down much better than I do and she has double the kiddos! (2 v. 1) Looking forward to trying this recipe Sunday morning...

Buttermilk Pancakes II

"A very light and fluffy pancake that requires fresh buttermilk, but it's the best I've ever made!"
INGREDIENTS:
3 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons white sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup milk
3 eggs
1/3 cup butter, melted
DIRECTIONS:
1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat together buttermilk, milk, eggs and melted butter. Keep the two mixtures separate until you are ready to cook.
2. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. You can flick water across the surface and if it beads up and sizzles, it's ready!
3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture, using a wooden spoon or fork to blend. Stir until it's just blended together. Do not over stir! Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/2 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot.

Spring Cleaning - Donation Drop Off Locations

The truth is that I have a huge empathetic heart. I donate year round to multiple causes during both my cleaning bursts and when a local/global need arises. It's difficult for me to watch the coverage of Haiti on the news much less imagine how all of their people, and especially their children are suffering. If you haven't already please consider donating cash to a charity of your choice to bring aid to Haiti. There is more information below on how to send clthing/products to the children.

PLEASE HELP US NOW! FedEx will ship these items to Haiti for Free. We are looking for slightly used clothing to send to the disadvantaged orphans of Haiti. Together with the other members of GoInspireGo, we are partnering with Lisa of LovedTwice to help in this fundraising. But this is not enough. We need to get clothing and supplies to babies and toddlers, and also to the slightly older children, preferably through age 15.

Please drop off your donations at my (Lan's) house over this weekend. It's near Ralston and Alameda in Belmont, 400 Live Oak Way Unit 403, Belmont, CA 94002.

We'll be collecting donation for "Kids' Closet", a program by Samaritan House, a private nonprofit organization providing services to help meet the essential daily needs of more than 12,000 low-income people within the San Mateo County. We need new and gently used clothing for children ages newborn through school aged teens. There's no room for stuffed animals at this time, so please save them for another chance. If you have twin-sized blankets/sheets, they are welcome too.

Other Items from your cleaning spurt!

If you have a baby in tow, St Vincent de Paul, Redwood City is a great drop off location. You can pull into their back gate and they have someone readily available to help you unload and to give you a receipt. No need to get your little one out of their carseat. I also recommend The Shelter Network but it can be more difficult to get your donation boxes/bags through the gates at their locations, call in advance for assistance!

Mondays With Maggie

I anticipate things and I'm a pro at it. If I can figure out what a person will say/how they will react I can formulate a response and then "fix" anything from there. The bad thing about pro anticipation is pro level anxiety. I learned from Maggie today that we all could stop trying to constantly anticipate what everyone else is thinking/feeling. Let them speak for themselves and allow yourself to living in the moment, thus trusting the world a tiny bit more.

Revamping

I feel like a lot of things in my life need revamping, including my writing. I'm redefining my blog as it was previously too finely focused and looking forward to giving my writing chops a workout in 2010! I am a lover of blogs, especially SF Chronicle's The Poop! Bay area living and building a nest here is of course my favorite topic but also hope to include more on travel, food, and the relationships that color our lives.
